Battery-charging circuit using a GTO in a Buck resonant circuit topology

An analysis of a quasi-resonant Buck converter has been carried out and a design procedure formulated. An example is given of a 500 W d.c.-d.c. converter for charging 60 V batteries directly from the 240V single-phase mains supply. A prototype of the resulting design has been built and tested to verify simulated results produced on a computer using PSPICE. Experimental results presented show good correspondence with theoretical predictions.
