Integrating Intelligent Computer Generated Forces in Distributed Simulations: TacAir-Soar in STOW-97

This paper is based on our experiences in integrating a real-time high-fidelity model of human behavior in advanced distributed battlefield simulations. Our experiences are drawn from our participation in the Synthetic Theater of War-1997 (STOW- 97) in which we developed behaviors for all U.S. Navy, Air Force, and Marine fixed wing aircraft missions. We discovered many interoperability issues that related to integrating our software with the existing military practices and procedures, as well as with the underlying simulation infrastructure. This paper describes the software systems we developed and the lessons we learned from their integration.
