EMISSIONS FROM MOTOR VEHICLES

The paper reviews the current level of emissions from motor vehicles in the UK and also discusses future emission levels. Section 2 of the article examines the normal emissions from vehicles and describes which of them are generally referred to as pollutants. Section 3 briefly describes recent UK legislation on vehicle emissions while section 4 examines past trends in pollutants. A summary in section 5 details some possible future actions which can affect vehicle emissions. Possible future trends are discussed in section 6. Available evidence of the effect of vehicle pollutants on animal or plant life is briefly considered. (A) (TRRL)
