Tools for Measuring, Predicting and Reducing the Environmental Impact from Railway Noise and Vibration

A review is presented of the measurement procedures in use for determining the environmental impact of railway noise and vibration. Various prediction schemes are addressed which are useful for land-use planning and the assessment of noise and vibration impact from new railways. Refined models are described as tools aiming at improved noise control at the sources. The common measures for noise and vibration control at source and in the propagation paths are listed.
