CO2 laser therapy for Milia en plaque

Milia en plaque (MEP), an unusual variant of milia, characterized by the presence of tiny cysts grouped in retroauricular plaques was first described by Balzer and Fouquet in 1903. A number of factors including use of external agents, trauma etc. have been implicated in its etiopathogenesis. A primary form was termed milia en plaque by Hulber et al in 1978 following which around 22 cases have been reported in the literature. Despite its benign nature, MEP is a cause of cosmetic concern. We report a case involving the classical retroauricular site, which was treated successfully with CO2 laser therapy.
