Wide band compact RF receiver for millimeter wave 5G mobile communication

A wide band compact RF receiver front-end for 5G communication system is designed in this paper, which could be typically applied in a Q-band millimeter wave massive MIMO system of 16 channels. The RF receiver is designed using multi-layered structure and highly-integrated downconverter chips to decrease the module size. The antenna feeding transition structure is designed using electromagnetic field simulation software, and integrated in RF board. The size of fabricated RF receiver is 2cm*2cm. IF and power supply circuits are also designed separately to support the RF array with 16 channels configuration. The performance of single channel receiver in the array is measured with gain of 26.9dB, gain flatness of 1.13dB, input 1dB compression point of -6dBm, third-order intercept point of 5.3dBm and the EVM of 1.6%rms.
