Images of electromyograms that allow digital image processing to resolve muscle activation while exercising or in osteoarthritis patients

Summary Our objective is to illustrate methods that allow transforming electromyograms into images that can be processed by image processing methods. Two examples are shown which demonstrate the potential combining wavelet and pattern analysis. The first one shows the electromyograms of four muscles that were recorded during a flip with a full twist in an aerial freestyle ski jump. It shows the use of high frequency generating muscle fibers and the co-contraction at specific moments of the flight. The second example shows the difference between the affected leg and the not affected leg of an osteoarthritis (OA) patient. The patterns can be assigned to the correct leg in 70% of the cases.
