Continuous Mass-Balance of Pollutant Build-Up Processes

The authors discuss the concept of “pollutant build-up” from the perspective of continuous rather than event modelling. Pollutant sources are described, including anthropogenic activities, such as atmospheric deposition and scavenging, automobiles, and pavement degradation, as well as natural processes. Redistribution and removal processes occurring during dry periods are also described (including biological decay, intentional removals and wind or eddy-induced transport).
