Multi-scale and multi-dimensional formalism for enterprise modeling

Abstract This paper proposes a modeling formalism that integrates various phenomena with different level of accuracy, temporal and spatial scale and dynamics. Multi-scale and multi-dimensional formalism (MSMDF), in which model is expressed as a combination of hierarchically and/or horizontally structured modules and their links, has been proposed. The MDF concept defines a model as an interaction of structural, behavioral, and operational dimensions (modules). The MSF concept further enables a hierarchical/horizontal combination of MDF modules. Multi-scale and multi-dimensional formalism (MSMDF) integrates high-level business models with day-to-day operation models, and enables a business decision making (BDM) based on more precise understandings of the state of the business.
