Chronic liver injury induced by immunologic reactions. Cirrhosis following immunization with heterologous sera.

Previous experiments in mice have indicated that a liver with mild injury may constitute a site for the formation of cytotoxic immune complexes which aggravate the hepatic damage.' In view of the possibility that preferential localization of immune complexes in an intact liver may also induce hepatic damage, rats have been immunized and their livers studied histologically and immunocytochemically. This paper describes the lesions observed after the prolonged administration of foreign proteins; attempts are made to elucidate the pathogenesis of these lesions.
