Symbolic Computation of Mathematical Transforms and Its Application: A MATLAB Computational Project-Based Approach

MATLAB/Simulink, its toolboxes and blocksets are well known as leading simulation package in electrical and electronics engineering. The present paper illustrates the usage of symbolic computation in MATLAB in computation of mathematical transform and system modeling. Firstly, the use of MATLAB is demonstrated towards symbolic computation of mathematical transforms and then its application is presented. The method uses MATLAB script implementation for computation of mathematical transform and for analysis of the system response. The study is not only limited to electrical and electronics engineering but can be applied virtually to any dynamic system, making it accessible even to the students from non-engineering backgrounds. The purpose of the paper is to motivate the MATLAB computational project-driven self-learning of students in signal and system course.
