Using an Angle-Based, Sampled-Data Approach to Modeling a Diesel Engine

Abstract This paper presents a technique for using state space sampled-data analysis in the modeling of systems containing samplers operating at regular intervals of some variable other than time. A state space sampled-data approach to modeling of systems with natural samplers is a precursor to using sampled-data or discrete state space control design techniques. The technique is applied to the problem of modeling a diesel engine which has natural samplers that operate at regular intervals of the engine's angle of rotation.
