Peritonitis and Exit-Site Infection

Peritonitis had been recognized as the most frequent and potentially therapy-limiting complication of CAPD. In the early years of CAPD, it accounted for nearly 50% of hospitalizations in CAPD patients. In recent years, a dramatic reduction in the incidence of peritonitis has occurred, mainly due to improved techniques and connector technology. The incidence reported with the use of Y-set connectors has ranged from one episode every two to three years.
