Development of a three-dimensional vibration measurement system using a single laser scanning vibrometer and laser scanner

The laser scanning vibrometer(LSV) is one of instruments for measuring vibration by non-contact method. It is typically used to measure vibration in conventional tests of bulky machinery structures. However, LSVs can only measure speeds parallel to the laser beam direction; i.e., they cannot detect vibration when the surface has vibration that is perpendicular to the laser beam direction. Therefore, three sets of LSVs are required to measure three-dimensional vibration. The use of three sets of LSVs has a notable disadvantage of high cost. In order to overcome this weakness, this paper proposes a three-dimensional vibration measurement system which consists of one LSV, one CCD camera and one Laser Scanner(LS). The proposed three-dimensional vibration measurement system can measure the three-dimensional vibration using only one LSV.
