Application of a Neural Network to Simulate Analysis in an Optimization Process

Expensive analysis programs are often applied to solve engineering design problems. To obtain an optimal solution typically requires numerous iterations between the analysis program and an optimization program. This often becomes prohibitive due to the amount of computer time required for convergence. Therefore, any new software that could significantly reduce the computer time required to solve a complex design problem would be beneficial. A new experimental software package called NETS/PROSSS has been developed to help meet this need. NETS/PROSSS combines an neural network for simulating the analysis program with an optimization program.
