Poor surface conditions on asphaltic pavements can be both unpleasant and unsafe when environmental conditions are right. The major problem facing researchers is that the causes for pavement problems are extremely complex. The first focus in this article is the ongoing research on the variety of problems; the next focus is on some specific causes and possible solutions.
