A comparative evaluation of series and parallel structures for high frequency transistor inverters

Results of an experimental comparison between voltage mode (series) and current mode (para11e1) sine-wave inverters are presented. These results highlight the non-dualistic relationships between the two circuits. It is shown that the parallel inverter has a significant advantage in terms of component ratings and that its output may be varied over a wider range using drive frequency control. The major disadvantage of the parallel structure is its special start-up and shut-down requirements. Operation of dc-dc converters using these two structures is described.
