Modeling and energy exchange characteristic analyses of a simplified DC SMES system

A simplified DC superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) model is presented in this paper. The theoretical modeling and application topology are introduced with a new digital time-delay control method proposed to achieve required energy exchange. The theoretical analysis and simulation results of the steady and dynamic power and exchange processes verify its feasibility for the design, optimization and evaluation of a practical SMES device in various power system applications.
