Abstract This paper presents the problem description of the SICE benchmark problem II which is provided The SICE Research Committee on Advanced Powertrain Control Theory. The plant model is a vehicle which has a V6 gasoline engine with variable valve lift system. The problem is to control vehicle speed of the model by the concept of engine management with torque demand. The control design specification is explained in detail, a brief review is given on intermediate results of the challengers.
