Abstract Rain attenuation statistics at 11.6 GHz and 32° elevation angle deduced from one complete year of measurements near Milan are compared with the statistics obtained from a model storm and surface measurements of the rainfall rate. Two different assumed vertical profiles of rain are able to reproduce the attenuation statistics but each of the different profiles results in a different dependence on elevation angle.
