The Role of Automated Training in Future Army Flight Simulators.

Abstract : The purpose of Project ATRAIN has been to develop a model of automated training in Army simulated flight training. The model is intended to provide a description for simulator designers of the role of automated training in Army simulator training and to provide guidelines for the incorporation of automated training features in future simulator design. The emphasis throughout this study has been upon development of the model and the supporting data necessary for effective training through use of the automated training features of existing and future devices, rather than upon study of various mechanisms for automating training. Data were derived through surveys of present utilization of automated training features in selected Army and non-Army flight simulators and through a review of the literature on the operational use of such features in flight training programs.
