Extraction of the Borderline in Prepared Tooth Cavity Based on Intelligent Scissors

Automatic tooth restoration produces customized teeth with a prepared cavity, while the fitting of the restoration is determined by the boundary feature of the cavity. An improved method of 3D optimal path searching to precisely detect the borderline for extraction using intelligent scissors is presented here. Identified by the minimum weighted sum local cost functions of the boundary features in the tooth cavity, the 3D path searching provides mathematically piece-wise optimal path for extraction accurately. This will increase efficiency of the design processes for automatic tooth restorations.
