Ring-circled mono-cone antenna for wireless body area network applications

In this paper, a ring-circled mono-cone antenna is proposed for wireless body area network (WBAN) applications. The proposed antenna, composed of a modified mono cone and a copper ring connecting to the ground plane by four cylinders, is vertically fed using a coaxial line through the bottom ground plane. The added ring and cylinders contribute to an extra lower frequency band, and thereby extend the bandwidth of the mono-cone antenna. A comprehensive parametric study has been done to provide the design guidelines. The antenna has been simulated and analyzed for validation. The results show that the antenna works within a very wide frequency band starting from 4.01 GHz to 12 GHz beyond. The system-fidelity factor of the proposed antenna is adequate for a pulse transmission.
