Evaluating the accessibility of provinces' e-government websites in Indonesia

Rapid development and usage of the internet should be utilized in many aspects of people's life, especially public service offered by the government in the form of e-government. However, a statistic from the ministry of information and communication shows that e-government in most Indonesian provinces has a poor performance. Only 13 provinces have e-government website with good condition out of 34 provinces. Previous research conducted in Indonesia mostly focus on the administration and social impact of e-government. This study evaluates accessibility of Indonesian provinces e-government websites. Two accessibility evaluation tools, which based on Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 (WCAG 2.0), are used in this study This results shows that many e-government websites have a lot of problems in accessibility. Findings of this study are expected to provide insight and recommendation for website developers and designers in developing engaging and useful e-government websites.
