A conductivity probe for measuring local solids concentration in a slurry muxing tank

Abstract A four-electrode conductivity probe was developed to measure local solids concentrations in slurry mixing tanks. The effects of temperature, ionic strength, velocity, and approaching various boundaries on the sensor voltage were examined in detail. The probe was also tested in a sedimentation vessel and a slurry pipeline. The experimental results indicated that local solids concentrations can be obtained from the sensor voltage using the well-known Maxwell's equation without the need for a calibration curve. However, to obtain a reliable solids concentration measurement, the conductivity of the working fluid should be monitored during the measurements.
