The coming mini/micro car crisis: Do we need a new definition?

It appears that with the planned 1984 introduction of the Chevrolet Sprint, United States drivers will have the opportunity to purchase a truly urban car from a domestic manufacturer. Such cars bring with them major safety challenges. The paper discusses some alternatives for registering and licensing these cars, plus a short history of small vehicle regulations in the U.S., the worldwide markets for such vehicles, and closes with a discussion of major urban car safety issues.
