Design of an Optical Interconnect Network with Optical Distribution Clock for Global Synchronization

In this Network, time division multiplexing technique and high speed cross connect switch have been adopted to achieve 80 Gbit/s data switching. The distributed optical closk has been introduced to decrease link set up time when optical channels are switched.Adopting this bit synchronization architecture, the link set up time on the order of millisecond can be decreased to several microseconds.Data packet communication latency can be decreased to several microseconds.Data packet communication latency can be decreased two to three magnitudes in the computer cluster. The requirement on fiber length error is 1 cm when the clock phase skew is limited to 5 percent of a clock period at 1 GHz.
