An exhibition and business centre for building materials Thessaloniki, Greece - Measurements and evaluation of passive and active systems

The 8,000m 2 EUROTECH Business, Conference and Exhibition Centre for Building Materials is currently being built near the airport of Thessaloniki, Greece. The purpose of this facility is to bring together under one roof businesses that deal with the promotion and sales of a wide spectrum of building materials. Further to permanent exhibition space, meeting, business and storage facilities are to be provided to facilitate presentations and debate of building related matters to the general public, designers and construction companies. Furthermore the building has been designed with bioclimatic principles in mind, in order to better respect the environment, save energy and serve as a demonstration case. The main features are controlled daylighting, solar gains, cooling by way of natural and night ventilation, solar hot water production, P/V arrays and energy saving M/E installations to be managed by a BEMS. Monitoring and evaluation of the different systems will be performed by Professor M. Papadopoulos and B. Sotiropoulos of the University of Thessaloniki, who were responsible for the evaluation of the Solar Village in Athens. Completion of construction is planned for May 1997.
