In this paper is shown the development of a low cost prototype that allows the visualization of meteorological images though the acquisition and the processing of a signal in Automatic Picture Transmission (APT) format, which is transmitted by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) polar orbit satellites. The deployment of the system is based on Software Defined Radio (SDR) technology, and for signal processing has been used the GNU Radio toolkit. The whole system is built with open-source hardware and software.
