Dynamic Modeling and Validation of Post-combustion Calcium-looping Process

Chemical looping systems became competitive solutions within CCS technologies to reduce CO2 capture energy penalty. The paper presents a 1D dynamic mathematical of calcium-looping process to be used for carbon capture in fossil fuel-based power plants. The modeling includes transfer processes: conservation equations for mass, energy and conversion degree for both interconnected fluidized bed reactors of the calcium looping process. The developed model of carbon dioxide capture by Ca-looping cycle has been validated with data collected from pilot plant published in literature (INCAR-CSIC, Spain). The developed model predicts the overall CO2 capture efficiency taking into consideration the deactivation of the sorbent.
