Improving Throughput using Cooperating TDMA Scheduling of Wireless Sensor Networks

Lifetime of wireless sensor network (WSN) can be increased by clustering method. In a cluster, cluster heads (CH) assign TDMA time slots to all member nodes or sensors sending data to their CH within allocated time slots. It offers two major categories of time slots-owner time slot together with non-owner time slot. Time slots for TDMA are used to send data appropriately without any loses of throughput. However, in lower traffic, many time slots may be wasted due to having small amount of data despite having data of other nodes. This is not the end of the story; slot owner nodes may contain partial amount of data whereas there may be a waiting of other nodes to send data to CH. So the corrosion of throughput may occur in spite of having data availability. In this paper, an innovative TDMA allocating system is proposed to send non-owner’s node data to CH via owner’s nodes while owner’s nodes hold limited amount of data for increasing the throughput. The proposed protocol has been analyzed through OmNET++ simulator and it observed a number of variables, for example, observing the sending packets for every round, total packet sending as well as delay time of the network, seeing improvement of throughput and time delay.
