Urinary tract pathology with sepsis.

1. Urinary tract infection occurs in one-third of 69 infants with sepsis.2. Ileus, reflux and nonobstructive hydronephrosis are the roentgen manifestations of infection.3. Medical treatment causes disappearance of the ileus, reflux and nonobstructive hydronephrosis in most patients.4. Persistent, recurrent, and uncontrolled ileus, reflux and nonobstructive hydronephrosis of a mild degree may progress to the severe and chronic changes previously designated as bladder neck and urethral obstruction.5. Urinary tract infection should be considered primary in all patients rather than considering it secondary to such factors as obstruction and anomaly.6. Primary treatment is medical.
