A Modified Direct Torque Control for a Matrix Converter-Fed Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine Drive

A modified direct torque control (DTC) scheme for the matrix converter fed Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (IPMSM) is proposed in this paper. Using the proposed method, besides the advantages of direct torque control strategy with matrix converter, it is possible to minimize the torque and flux ripples while maintaining constant switching frequency. In the proposed scheme, a modified DTC strategy for matrix converter IPMSM drives is achieved using a Proportional-Integral (PI) torque controller, stator flux linkage vector control and rectifying and inverting vector modulation (RIVM). Numerical simulations are carried out to verify the effectiveness of this new proposed scheme in both steady-state and transient conditions.
