PARKING GUIDANCE INFORMATION SYSTEMS: A EUROPEAN REVIEW

This paper reports the results of a review of existing parking guidance and information (PGI) systems in Europe, carried out as part of a wider research project concerned with developing improved parking management systems. The information was assembled through a combination of literature review, site visits, and consultation with manufacturers and users of existing PGI systems. Presented is a summary of some fifty known PGI systems. The report provides specific analyses of: the architecture of PGI systems; data collection systems; data transmission systems; data processing systems; methods of displaying variable information; the types of information displayed to drivers; consideration in the design of PGI systems; and evidence on the effects of PGI systems.
