Can the teachers' creativity overcome limited computer resources?

The experience of the Research Group on Education (RGE) at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences ad the Ministry of Education in using limited computer resources when teaching and applying informatics is discussed here. Several approaches and methods for overcoming the shortage of computers are analysed and evaluated: team work on a project, discussions, carrying out and analysing experiments in different fields by using computers, reading programs, ‘playing the computer’, publishing pupils' magazines, organizing a pupil's software house, different kind of competitions, etc. At present, when the RGE schools are among the most equipped in the country, the experience gained is still valuable and protects the teachers from being tempted to use computers even in cases when it is not necessary.
