Dynamic resource scheduling strategies for QoS in W-CDMA

Dynamic resource scheduling (DRS) has been proposed as an adaptive resource management and QoS provisioning framework applicable to W-CDMA systems. We consider and evaluate different spreading strategies for the DRS framework. Fixed spreading gain (FSG), variable spreading gain (VSG) and multi-code (MC) strategies are examined, and their performance is compared in terms of power saving, resource allocation and QoS stability. The VSG-DRS and MC-DRS outperform the FSG-DRS for capacity as a result of the statistical multiplexing gain created by adaptive bandwidth usage. However, MC-DRS is found to be less stable than the other schemes in QoS maintenance. The VSG-DRS is concluded to be the best compromise in terms of resource allocation, power consumption and stable QoS.
