Knowledge Based Pictorial Pattern Recognition

An overview of the field of knowledge based pictorial pattern recognition is given. Methodology and implementation tools are discussed and a review of current systems and applications is given. Finally, the pros and cons of the knowledge based approach to pattern recognition as well as open problems are discussed.
