Hypersonic technologies of atmospheric cruise flight under AJAX concept

The challenges of atmospheric cruise flight of hydrocarbon-fueled hypersonic flight vehicle (HFV) under Ajax concept are discussed in this article. Particular emphasis has been placed on innovative technologies of mastering hypersonic flight velocities which provide for creation of active thermal protection, magnetoplasmachemical engine (MPCE) and plasma devices for control of HFV aerodynamic characteristics. Thermal protection ensures not only cooling of construction but also production of hydrogenous mixture improving combustion behavior. Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) effect on the flow makes it possible to enhance specific impulse of the engine and create controllable inlet under off-design flight condition. Expediency of MHD generator application onboard hypersonic flight vehicle as power source, particularly for plasma devises, has also been demonstrated.
