Splitting: The development of a measure.

Described the development of a scale that measueres splitting as a psychological structure. The scale's construction is described, and evidence of acceptable relability is presented. One major factor, as well as two minor factors that represent grandiosity, and splitting evoked in intimate relationships, were, identified. There were two S samples: N = 75 and N = 188. There was no relationship between scale scores and sex or age. The construct validity of the splitting scale is suggested by the positive relationship between splitting scores and a diagnostic measure of the narcissistic personality disorder, as well as a negative relationship between splitting scores and levels of self-esteem.
