Cognitive appraisals, neuroticism, and openness as correlates of coping strategies: An integrative model of adaptation to marital difficulties.

Le but de cette etude est d'examiner les variables associees a la selection de deux strategies d'adaptation, la distanciation/evitement et la resolution de problemes, dans le contexte des relations conjugales. Plus specifiquement, a l'aide d'un echantillon de 200 couples, le role de l'evaluation cognitive des difficultes conjugales et des traits de personnalite de nevrosisme et d'ouverture est evalue dans le contexte du choix des strategies utilisees par l'individu pour faire face a ses difficultes conjugales. Les regressions multiples standards indiquent que le nevrosisme est associe positivement a l'utilisation de la distanciation/evitement tandis que l'ouverture est associee positivement a l'utilisation de la resolution de problemes et ce, pour les deux genres. De plus, les resultats indiquent que plus un individu evalue ses difficultes conjugales comme etant menacantes, comparativement a ses ressources, plus il devrait utiliser de distanciation/evitement. Les resultats sont discutes a la lumiere des theories recentes sur les strategies d'adaptation.
