A compact optoelectronic instrument with a disposable sensor based on surface plasmon resonance

A compact optical instrument featuring a disposable front-end sensor based on surface plasmon resonance has been developed. Mechanical scanning was eliminated by using a linear photodiode array, which was interfaced to a laptop computer. The instrument has an angular resolution of 0.01 degrees , and was shown to reliably measure the water content of water-alcohol mixtures, and the glucose content of blood.
