Performance analysis for distributed mobility management schemes based on flow duration

The mobile data traffic has been dramatically expanded for years and will remain the high growth rate in a long term. It is believed the traditional centralized mobility management can not satisfy the demands. And now many efforts put emphasis on distributed mobility management schemes. This paper discusses the advantages of multiple Home Network Prefix (HNP) allocating, which we consider as an important character of distributed mobility schemes, on point of flow duration for the first time. We think that the most Internet flows are very short, and the best way of forwarding them is using local HNP instead of tunneling to home link as described in the context of centralized mobility management schemes. Due to the needs of analysis, we study the cumulative distribution function of Internet flow duration based on our campus real data. Also we compare the delivery cost between the centralized and distributed mobility management schemes.
