Analysis of access point selection strategy in wireless lan LAN

We have proposed a decentralized AP selection architecture, and compared the proposed architecture with an existing RSS based AP selection scheme, which is also decentralized approach, from a viewpoint of the fundamental characteristics, the deployability, and the robustness, and shown that the proposed architecture can attain the excellent throughput performance and improve total throughput and fairness in STA throughput very much. We now compare our proposing decentralized architecture with the centralized approach. In the centralized approach, analytical throughput limitation corresponding with some metrics can be derived. Thus, we here investigate the throughput performance where a metric in centralized approach is optimized, and compare it with that of the decentralized architecture. In this study, we consider following typical metrics: the maximizing average throughput, the maximizing minimum throughput, and the maximizing sum of a logarithmic throughput. The results show that the performance of our decentralized architecture can stand comparison with the centralized approach.
