Simulation of daily load curves at traction substations along an electric railway

A method for simulation of daily load curves at traction substations along an electric railway has been introduced in this paper. On the basis of the proposed methodology a program has been developed. The program produces graphs of trains' movements that provide important information about the trains' motion which can be helpful in determining the load distributions for each substation at any time interval. The results provide significant intelligence to evaluate the adaptability of power-supply systems and devices. Furthermore, they enable three-phase power-flow programs to analyze in detail the effects of unbalanced traction loads on the power system from which the traction loads are fed. Related improvement projects can then be judged and conducted if necessary.
