Modelling of neuronal cells exposed to RF fields from mobile telecommunication equipment

Abstract The problem of studying the interaction between electromagnetic fields and biological systems can be approached from both theoretical and experimental points of view. In this work, a theoretical model based on experimental results has been introduced in order to study the exposure of neuronal cells to radio frequency (RF) fields. The model proposed is based on linking together two different levels of the biological scale, the level of the single ionic channel of the membrane and the level of the whole cellular membrane. Specific electromagnetic signals have been considered: in particular pulsed signals and continuous wave signals. Results have shown that the effect of the electromagnetic exposure can be regarded as a variation from the physiological situation of less than 6%.
