Segregação residencial e políticas públicas: São Paulo na década de 1990

The article aims at assessing the evolution of residential segregation in the metropolitan area of Sao Paulo, Brazil, in the 1990's, which saw a significant increase of socioeconomic segregation. In addition to interpreting the phenomenon, the article proposes a discussion on the reasons the residential segregation should be considered a fundamental issue for the formulation of social urban policies.
