Closed intelligent system for optimal support design of underground excavations

Abstract This paper proposed a new way for optimal support design of underground excavations. A knowledge-based closed system model was suggested. Some important research results based on this model, such as automatical information collection of surrounding rock; computer-aided intelligent design system; rock mass classification combined with expert system; Expert system for optimal design and decision of underground excavations based on neural network etc. have been introduced. As a result of application, the optimal design of stoping openings in Chenchao Iron Mine of PR China is obtained.
