Design and simulation of a low profile antenna on a vertical stepped ebg

One of the widely used applications of the electro- magnetic bandgap structures (EBGs) is in antenna engineering. They can noticeably improve the performance of different antennas by achieving higher level of gain and bandwidth. Here, a novel EBG structure is proposed, analysed and discussed. Furthermore, a horizontal dipole antenna is placed above the suggested EBG structure and it's S11 parameter is analysed. It is then compared to a horizontal dipole antenna above PEC ground plane. Simulation results indicate that gain and bandwidth of dipole above suggested EBG structure is increased noticeably in comparison with a dipole above a PEC ground plane. We've used Ansoft HFSS@ and CST@ softwares to perform our simulations.
