Due to the unbalance of renewable energy sources and electricity demand, the development of joint delivery has been an important measure to accommodate new energy in the northwest China grid. The uncertainty nature of wind power produce difficulty for the evaluation of economic and reliability benefits of joint delivery. To solve this problem, by means of establishing multistate wind power model, this paper introduces the concept of residual capacity and propose a probabilistic model for joint delivery to simulate the process of electric power support from sending-end to receiving-end. Moreover, combined with specific characteristics of different generators, a probabilistic production simulation algorithm frame, which considers joint delivery of wind and thermal power generation, has been developed. Taking EPRI 36-bus testing system as the case, the validity of the proposed method is verified. More importantly, with probabilistic production simulation of Jiuquan-Hunan ±800 k V HVDC project, adequacy benefits of receiving-end, environment benefits as well as effect of utilization hours of HVDC on the economic benefits of Jiuquan HVDC has been studied.
