Electrophoretic deposition of SnO2 nanoparticles using low frequency AC electric fields

Abstract Deposition of SnO 2 nanoparticles using AC electric fields with low frequencies (0.01–1000 Hz), called low frequency AC electrophoresis (ACEPD), is reported. Pure acetone was used as the suspending medium and the nanoparticles were deposited on two parallel gold electrodes separated with a gap of 500 μm. The effect of time, voltage and frequency on deposit weight/yield was investigated. Depending on the frequency and the voltage of the electric field, these nanoparticles may deposit either between or on the surface of the electrodes. Electrophoretic deposition of SnO 2 nanoparticles using AC and DC electric fields is also compared in this paper. This method can be used for deposition of ceramic thick films.
